Celebrating Roses: Alexandra’s Story

By June 21, 2025No Comments

“Wake Forest Lutheran Student Movement has been where I seek comfort, learn from others, and grow in my faith. I met most of my fellow members at the beginning of my first semester at Wake, and over the last three years, they have become some of my strongest supporters and closest friends. Our weekly dinners when we share our rose, bud, and thorn of the week have provided me a space to be authentically myself. I can lean on my community when I have more thorns than roses, and celebrate the major roses of my life with them!

Through our open conversations, I have learned how to be a good listener and advocate for others. With different regional, faith, and educational backgrounds, I’ve been exposed to varying interests, activities, and struggles present in others’ lives on an individual level.

Before coming to Wake, I was very active in my ELCA church’s youth group, with a large confirmation class of 236. While that experience sparked the beginning of my faith journey, I am extremely grateful for our small, close-knit group at Wake Forest. It fosters real individual connections between our members, and a strong group with whom we can deepen and embody our faith, while also extending outside our group and into other campus organizations. We can support each other in our separate endeavors, from theatre productions to environmental events, and have come together to volunteer at Wake Forest’s signature fundraising events throughout the school year. LSM’s commitment to giving back to our community is of huge importance to me, as it allows me to embody my faith in a real way outside of the church.”

Wake Forest Lutheran Student Movement, Winston-Salem, NC is one of 176 ministries affiliated with LuMin, the ELCA Campus Ministry Network.
